About Me
Background
My name is Ruairí Osborne. I am an experienced and accredited psychotherapist and counsellor. I am also a qualified couple’s therapist and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) practitioner. I offer online therapy sessions to clients across the UK and Ireland. I am an accredited member of the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP) and a member of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP). I originally trained as a psychotherapist with the Trácht Psychotherapy Foundation in Ireland.
Approach
I bring a warm, informal and non-judgmental approach to my work. I practice body-centered psychotherapy, working in a humanistic and integrative way. Humanistic simply means that I see my clients as a whole person; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I see my role as helping you to reconnect with your own inner-wisdom and wholeness so that you can realise your full potential in life. Integrative basically means that I use a non-prescriptive approach by drawing from a broad range of therapeutic tools to help you on that journey. Some of these tools include elements of: Process-oriented Psychology, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, EMDR and Mindfulness. For me, the path to healing revolves around healthy human relationships. As such, I place a strong emphasis on the development of a supportive therapeutic relationship in my work.
I provide counselling and psychotherapy for a wide range of challenges, including; Addictions, Anger Management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Depression, Relationship Difficulties, Intimacy Issues, Trauma and Work-related Stress. Click here to explore the range of challenges I work with.
Covid-19 Update:
I see more and more clients presenting with anxiety and panic attacks as well as feeling overwhelmed by the effects of social-distancing and self-isolation. I’m now focusing how I work to offer meaningful support and resources to help clients through this extraordinary time.
I offer a free, confidential 15-minute phone consultation where you can ask questions, and get an idea of how online therapy can help. If you would like to speak with me here to arrange a telephone appointment.
Further Training
I trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) at Queen’s University in Belfast. EMDR is an innovative form of psychotherapy that helps clients heal from traumatic events and memories. It is highly effective at treating PTSD as well as anxiety. I use EMDR regularly with clients suffering from feelings of anxiety and overwhelm related to the Covid-19 outbreak.
In addition to working with individuals, I also work as a couple’s therapist. I am trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 3) and use Gottman methods as the cornerstone of my couples work. I had the privilege of training internationally with Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the founders of the Gottman Method.
In my personal life, I heed my own counsel. I know what it’s like to experiences challenges in relationship that need outside help. About 3 years into our marriage, my wife and I sought couples therapy with a skilled therapist trained in the Gottman Method. This helped us through a difficult time in our relationship. As a client participating in this therapy, I can attest to its effectiveness. We worked through our struggles and are happily married in a loving, mutually supportive and secure relationship.
I am also the founder of A Gathering of Men. This experiential training offers men across the UK and Ireland the tools to develop deeper emotional awareness and resilience. Emotionally tuned-in and empowered men mean better fathers and happier and more secure children and families.
I believe that counselling and psychotherapy can help create real and meaningful change to support you to have a happier and more fulfilled life.
